Will Ospreay: The Surgeon Told Me My Herniated Discs Won’t Get Worse, But It Needs To Be Corrected

On Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, Will Ospreay hinted at possibly needing surgery following AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. He previously disclosed that he was dealing with herniated discs, leading to time off after AEW All In.

Ospreay will compete in a ten-man Lights Out Steel Cage match at Forbidden Door on Sunday.

Speaking to Zack Heydorn of SI’s The Takedown, Ospreay detailed his injuries and current status.

“I am compromised,” Ospreay said. “I’ve got a few herniated discs pushing against my spinal cord, which is affecting a couple of my nerves. But, I can do stuff and I can perform one last time before I need to go get it all corrected.

“I got told after All In that I was gonna need to rest and take some time off to see how this is gonna go, and then the MRI’s came back and I got told this is worse than what we thought it was gonna be, but that it’s manageable. It’s absolutely fine. The surgeon even told me that it’s not going to get any worse. It just it needs to be corrected.”

Ospreay said that AEW medical would not allow him to perform if there was a risk of him getting hurt. He said that if there is a chance that he’s not going to be the same after Forbidden Door, he wants to be Will Ospreay one last time.

Ospreay will team with Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi, and Darby Allin against Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Gabe Kidd, and the Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) in the Lights Out Steel Cage match at Forbidden Door.
