Will Ospreay Unable To Compete At NJPW 'Power Struggle', NEVER Openweight Championship Match Cancelled

Some bad news to pass along...

Last week during a New Japan Pro Wresting and Revolution Pro Wrestling joint-show, former multi-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay landed awkwardly when he attempted to hit a "pele kick" on Chris Ridgeway while Ridgeway was on the top rope during their match. After Ospreay missed the kick and landed on the mat, he appeared to be dazed but the two men were able to wrap up the match and following the bout Ospreay was helped to the back by medical staff.

"The Aerial Assassin" then took to Twitter the day after the incident and alerted the public and his fans that he is doing fine and that he needs to take some time to heal.

New Japan Pro Wrestling also gave Ospreay time off from the 'Road To Power Struggle' shows ahead of Ospreay challenging Taichi for the NEVER Openweight Championship at 'Power Struggle' on November 3rd. Unfortunately for Ospreay he will not be getting his shot at the NEVER Openweight Title as NJPW has posted an update on their website which reads that due to the current status of Will Ospreay, he will not be ready to go by November 3rd therefore the NEVER Openweight Championship bout at 'Power Struggle' has been removed from the card.

"Will Ospreay who was injured in the side in England and was aiming for return, but since then the situation of injury recovery is bad, November 3 (Saturday, congratulation) Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium Convention is also missing It was decided to do.

In conjunction with this, the NEVER indiscriminate championship game (Taichi vs Will · Osprey) scheduled at the same event will be canceled.

I am very sorry for the customer who was looking forward to this title match. Humbly thanking you in advance.

New Japan Pro Wrestling Co., Ltd."

'Power Struggle' is now at six matches with the headlining bout being Chris Jericho defending the IWGP Intercontinental Championship against EVIL. To view the updated match card for the event, head over to Fightful's "events" section.
