William Regal: I Would Sacrifice Money To Get Rid Of People To Bring In Cesaro

William Regal wrestled his last match in 2013 against Cesaro.

Regal has always spoken highly of Cesaro and the two will be forever linked due to Regal's final match. Cesaro has been a free agent since February after his WWE contract expired and the two sides couldn't reach a new agreement.

Speaking to Renee Paquette on The Sessions, Regal gave high praise for Cesaro.

"I've only put my cards for four people where I've gone and said, 'I can't tell you if they are going to draw you any money, but they are incredible at what they do, they are professional, they will always be there, they will represent the company well.' Everything that you could want out of a person. Two of them was Bryan (Danielson) and Claudio was the second. That's how much I think of him. He needs to do whatever he feels is right for his family. If my words mean anything. It's not about what you think is right or wrong, if nothing else, to have the stabilizing influence of a 100% professional person who everybody can look up to and watch and learn from. Everything you could possibly want as a professional. Dresses like a star, as a human being, speaks five languages perfectly, can represent your company anywhere. That's before we even get into the ring. If you're not using him...If you can't find...if you don't think he's...then, maybe, there is something wrong somewhere. If I had any clout anywhere, as far as that much stuff, I would sacrifice some of the money from that roster to get rid of people, this may sound horrible, to get him. That is how much he would bring to any locker room," he said.

Fightful Select published the following report on Cesaro and his future on May 11:

Many promoters that we've spoken to say that Cesaro's was priced out of some potential bookings, and they'd not be able to land him until the asks came back down to earth. Cesaro has been repped by an agent who also manages several other wrestlers. However, we're told that some wrestlers had been intentionally utilizing a high asking price because they're content staying home until the right deal or offer comes along after being on the road for so long. We haven't heard if that's specifically the case with him.

We spoke to one promoter that hoped to book Claudio for a signing in July that seemed to believe they would be able to land the deal, and had been in regular contact with the wrestler.

Those we spoke to in WWE said they wanted to retain Cesaro, but the two sides couldn't come to terms, and over the last 16 months he'd shown that he knew his value and wasn't going to get into an unfavorable position. One source indicated that Cesaro and/or his team was very savvy in speaking with WWE in 2021 and 2022.

Cesaro has returned to Twitch since leaving WWE.

As for Regal, he recently commented on his final bout against Cesaro and noted that he won't wrestle again. You can find his full comments by clicking here. Regal is currently signed to AEW and leads the Blackpool Combat Club, which features Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley, and Wheeler Yuta.
