Willow Nightingale Credits New Day For Platforming Black Joy In Wrestling
Nightingale gives flowers to The New Day.
The latest guests to appear on Marking Out with MVP & Dwayne Swayze were the first-ever AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions, Babes of Wrath (Willow Nightingale & Harley Cameron).
During the chat, Nightingale put the spotlight on the original incarnation of The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) for showcasing Black wrestlers being joyful and expressing happiness on a consistent basis.
“I also personally would like to do a shoutout to New Day because when we talk about a Willow Nightingale kind of character of like… breaking down a stereotype, and embracing the positive and joy. Black joy and being carefree and whimsical. I think they helped people accept that and be like, ‘Yeah! That is cool. Right on’ and can kind of make way for me to also be like, that is what I have been dishing out.”
Nightingale and Cameron are no longer the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions, but Nightingale is still the reigning TBS Champion.
Her next title defense is taking place at AEW Dynamite: Spring BreakThru against the returning Kamille.
