WWE Announces Cody Rhodes Is Sidelined With Orbital Injury

After Cody Rhodes defeated Randy Orton to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 42 night one, Orton ambushed Rhodes and hit him with the belt. Orton proceeded to deliver a punt kick to Rhodes.

Backstage, WWE pushed out footage of Rhodes getting checked out by WWE’s medical staff, and his left eye was swollen shut.

During the WrestleMania 42 Kickoff show on April 19th, backstage correspondent/interviewer Jackie Redmond relayed the news that Rhodes is not medically cleared due to an orbital injury. She added that he needed staples in the back of his head, and a timetable for his return is unknown.

PWInsider reported that Rhodes was pulled from his appearance at WWE World on 4/19. The site noted that Rhodes’ eye was injured via a punch from Orton that landed flush.
