WWE Battleground Finish Didn't Go As Planned

One WWE Battleground finish didn't go the way it was supposed to.

Fightful.com was able to confirm with a source that the ending of the AJ Styles vs. Kevin Owens United States Championship match went awry, which explains several unusual situations at the close of the match.

Rovert on Twitter first brought the situation to light, noting that the awkward finish, lack of replays, late betting odds and his demeanor on Talking Smack all were red flags. Fightful also received reports live that Styles was visibly unhappy following the match and had a heated discussion with the referee.

Styles' shoulder was not on the mat at the time of the pinfall, either. While Fightful was able to confirm the finish wasn't originally planned as of Saturday, we weren't told if Owens or Styles were meant to actually win the match.

It's worth noting that WWE didn't do a "Battleground Fallout" for the match, either.
