On June 9, WWE submitted an application with the USPTO to trademark 'NXT Gold Rush.' The filing is intended to cover the categories of a show about professional wrestling.

In 2012, Dusty Rhodes announced a "Gold Rush" tournament in NXT to determine the first ever NXT Champion. It featured 4 NXT Superstars and 4 main roster Superstars and culminated on July 26, 2012, with Seth Rollins defeating Jinder Mahal in the finals.
