WWE Officials Pushing For Major Event In China Amid Global Expansion

WWE could be heading back to China and potentially hosting a Premium Live Event there for the first time. New information is currently available on Fightful Select.

A major market has been discussed internally for a WWE return as they expand.

WWE could be returning to China if some have their way. Fightful Select has learned that several influential individuals within WWE have pushed for the promotion to hold a major event in China, with a PLE being discussed internally as a potential option.

WWE has held a total of eight events in China. The first event was held in Hong Kong in 1994. They returned in 2010 with more regularity, holding seven events throughout the decade. The last time WWE held an event in the country was September 2019, and the show featured Kofi Kingston defeating Daniel Bryan to retain the WWE Title. WWE’s expansion into China was halted mainly due to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.

WWE has put a great emphasis on global expansion in recent years. WWE Premium Live Events are regularly held outside of the United States now. Saudi Arabia, France, Australia, Wales, Scotland, and other countries have hosted major WWE events in the last three years.

Fightful Select has more details regarding the location that has been earmarked internally for a potential return to China.
