Xavier Woods Recalls Vince McMahon Cackling And Insisting Francesca Be Part Of New Day

Most fans know New Day as Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, and Big E. But the trio was blessed with a fourth member in 2015 when Woods introduced Francesca.

Woods' trusty trombone became a staple in the group as he used it to annoy opponents and encourage fans and his partners. Speaking on New Day: Feel The Power, Woods discussed the origin of Francesca.

Adam Copeland: I Didn't Fully Realize What Acting Brought To Me Until I Came Back To Wrestling

"They said, 'maybe on Raw, you do something with the song New York, New York.' This is when they were starting to trust us to do whatever," Woods recalled. "We were asking for stuff and they were letting it slide. At this point in our career, we're trying to see if we can get into trouble. I remember being like, 'Instead of singing it, can you get me a trombone?' We were kinda joking about it. They text back and are like, 'We can get it.' We were [stunned]. 'What is happening?' I learned how to play [New York, New York], we did our schtick and I was supposed to hand [the trombone] off to our props guy. I was like, 'I don't know if I'll get a trombone on TV again. I'm gonna keep it for the match.' During the match, I randomly play it. During a commercial, the camera guy comes up and goes, '[Vince McMahon] is laughing his ass off. Keep playing that trombone.' We got to the back and I remember, [Vince] was cackling. He was like, 'ALWAYS! ALWAYS! YOU ALWAYS HAVE THE TROMBONE NOW! IT'S PART OF THE GROUP!'"

Unfortunately, Francesca was "killed" in January 2016, leading to the debut of Francesca 2. With Woods sidelined with an Achilles injury, Francesca 2 is also sidelined at the moment.

Elsewhere on the podcast, the trio discussed how much fun they had as heels, ripping on hometowns. You can find their full comments by clicking here.
