Yota Tsuji vs. Callum Newman For IWGP Heavyweight Championship Made Official For NJPW Sakura Genesis

The IWGP Title bout is locked in.

The finals of the 2026 New Japan Cup tournament saw Callum Newman versus Yuya Uemura. Newman defeated Uemura to become the youngest New Japan Cup winner in history at 23 years of age.

With his victory, Newman earned a shot at the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. The current champion, Yota Tsuji, came out to the ring after Newman’s tournament win, and they had a brief exchange.

The title match is taking place on April 4th at NJPW Sakura Genesis at Ryōgoku Sumo Hall in Tokyo. Tsuji has been reigning as champion since Wrestle Kingdom 20, where he defeated Konosuke Takeshita for the belt.
