Yuka Sakazaki: I Hope My Match With Masha Slamovich Leads To More PWG Women's Matches

Yuka Sakazaki wants to see change in PWG.

Despite the surge of women's wrestling during the past few years, popular American indie Pro Wrestling Guerilla has yet to jump in on one of the hottest wrestling trends. A women's match hasn't been seen on a PWG card since 2016, when popular mainstay Candice LeRae left to go to WWE.

Recently, PWG finally changed course when they announced that Yuka Sakazaki will be facing Masha Slamovich at the upcoming 'Nineteen' event in July. In a new interview with Andrew Thompson of POST Wrestling, Sakazaki expressed excitement about the upcoming bout and said she hopes it leads to more PWG women's matches in the future.

"I’m very glad to see that not only did PWG have a very rare Joshi match on the card, I’m very glad to be part of the match! I’ll do my best to live up to expectations. I’m not sure about future women’s matches but I hope that my match with Masha [Slamovich] would lead to more women’s matches there."

Sakazaki also recently chose one women's wrestler that she'd bring to her home promotion, TJPW. To see more on that, click here.
