Yuya Uemura Reflects On NJPW G1 Final Against Ryohei Oiwa: “I Feel I Was Able To Present My Ideal Of Pro-Wrestling”

Yuya Uemura looks back on the G1.

The final of the 2026 New Japan Pro-Wrestling G1 Climax 36 tournament saw Ryohei Oiwa defeat Yuya Uemura.

Monthly Puroresu conducted an interview with Uemura, and he opened up about the reception to the style of match that he and Oiwa wrestled. He feels he was able to showcase his ideal of the sport.

“Obviously the result was disappointing, but I feel I was able to present my ideal of pro-wrestling. I’ve been talking about representing a new standard since last year’s G1 and this year I was finally able to give that form. As for Oiwa, he just seemed to be full of confidence right from the midway point of the G1. He’s going to be a critical rival for me going forward.”

As for Oiwa, he is gearing up to challenge Yota Tsuji for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at King of Pro-Wrestling on October 12th.
