Although Zack Sabre Jr. isn't planning on pulling any punches when he faces Will Ospreay in Sapporo, Japan, he does hold a lot of admiration for Ospreay's skills as a wrestler.
Days before Sabre defends his RevPro British Heavyweight title against Ospreay on night two of NJPW's New Beginning of Sapporo event, Sabre spoke about the growth of British wrestling and its presence in NJPW. Sabre talked about different styles that he and Ospreay bring to the table, but is highly complimentary of them, saying that people who don't recognize Ospreay as a highly talented are naive.
"Wrestling is like genres of music. I might be most passionate about technical wrestling and that’s the vision I have, but I don’t necessarily think that Ospreay’s style is wrong. People that judge him by watching GIFs are being very naïve if they don’t believe he’s an incredibly talented wrestler. Ultimately though, he can’t touch me on the mat. He doesn’t have the philosophy or understanding of what I think wrestling should be. We’re going to measure and contrast those approaches, I guess. People in Sapporo or watching on NJPW World are going to see what the next evolution of British wrestling is," Sabre told NJPW.
Sabre has held the British Heavyweight title since last September when he defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi at the NJPW Destruction In Beppu show.
Fightful will have live coverage of NJPW New Beginning In Sapporo night two on February 2.
