Zayda Steel: “It’s So Crazy How Things Work Out Because Growing Up, I Actually Hated Christopher Daniels”

Zayda Steel was an A.J. Styles fan growing up.

The SkyFlight faction in AEW/ROH consists of Scorpio Sky, Zayda Steel, Darius Martin, and Dante Martin, with Christopher Daniels as the manager.

While on AEW Unrestricted, Steel said it’s a full circle moment that she’s working with Daniels because growing up, she was an A.J. Styles supporter and hated Daniels.

“A lot happened in a short amount of time but, so yeah, pretty much, he had told me — I was invited as his guest so technically, I didn’t even come as an extra or anything — just to scope stuff out and he had told me he wanted to have me debut on Final Battle against Leila (Grey), which I was like, ‘Great.’ Freaking my debut’s on a pay-per-view pre-show and hopefully the next Final Battle, I get to be on the main card. Full circle hopefully so, instantly I was like, ‘Hell yeah,’ and it was just a waiting game at that point and then unfortunately, the next day after I wrestled Leila, she got hurt. It’s so crazy how things work out because growing up, I actually hated Christopher Daniels. I love AJ Styles, and I know they used to tag and do stuff as friends, but I didn’t grow up with that… It’s so full circle that my first time ever wrestling for AEW/Ring of Honor, I got to shake Christopher Daniels’ hand in the middle of the ring. Now that I’m older, I have a lot of respect for him because he clearly did his job right, so, and now I get to work with him which is insane, and he handpicked me. He asked me to be a part of the group so of course I can’t let him down.” Steel added that Daniels found out she hated him growing up, “I can’t keep my mouth shut and he quickly found out.”

Steel’s AEW signing was officially announced in January. The 22-year-old was last featured on the 3/5 episode of ROH on HonorClub.
