An update on Shinjiro Otani.
At ZERO1's event on April 10, the main event between Otani and Takashi Sugiura was stopped when Otani took a german suplex into the turnbuckle and couldn't move.
The 49-year-old was taken to the hospital.
On April 11, ZERO1 President Takahito Kami gave an update to Tokyo Sports on Shinjiro Otani, saying, "It hasn't changed. He's conscious, but can't move his limbs. Currently, he's being treated by a doctor. As for the official diagnosis, we are waiting for a reply from the hospital."
It is noted that due to COVID restrictions, ZERO1 staff has been unable to visit. It is possible that family members will be able to visit on the evening of April 11.
Otani made his debut in 1992 as a young lion in NJPW. He is a former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, two-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion, and ZERO1 World Heavyweight Champion.
Fightful will provide more information on Otani when it is available. We wish him the best in his recovery.
