WWE Raw Results For May 5: Dean Ambrose/Bray Wyatt Headlines, Co-GM's For The Night & The WWE Raw Tag Team Champs Have Their Challengers

Dean Ambrose is walking backstage when his phone rings, the person on the other end of the line is Raw GM Kurt Angle. Ambrose seems excited about what Angle said, Ambrose hangs up the phone and he makes his way to the ring. Ambrose grabs the microphone to announce that Raw GM Kurt Angle isn’t here tonight and that Angle named him the GM for Raw tonight. Ambrose gets interrupted by The Miz and Maryse, Miz promptly tells the crowd to shut up and they do not respond well.

Miz wants to know if the crowd approves the decision made by Angle tonight and the fans do, even though Miz says Raw will be total chaos tonight. Ambrose tries to speak and Miz interrupts him to say that Stephanie McMahon contacted him to make him co-Raw GM for the night. Miz says that Stephanie made him the co-Raw GM because she felt that Ambrose would ruin Raw, Miz tries talking some more and Ambrose interrupts him now.

Ambrose says that he will get along with Miz tonight, but will deliver a beat down to him in a few weeks at WWE Extreme Rules. Miz then talks about how he defeated Seth Rollins and Finn Balor in a match last week on WWE Raw, Ambrose also wants to shake hands with Miz and that’s when Braun Strowman makes his way to the ring with his arm in a sling. Strowman says that he doesn’t care who’s in charge and that he’ll get what he wants because he destroyed Roman Reigns at WWE Payback.

Strowman says that he isn’t finished with Reigns until he’s no longer walking and he will eventually end Reigns for good. Strowman also says that he wants WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar after he’s done with Reigns, which brings Kalisto out to the stage. Kalisto says that he isn’t done with Strowman yet either, Kalisto says that Strowman almost ended his career in the aftermath of the Dumpster Match on WWE Raw. Kalisto demands a match with Strowman and Strowman says he can beat Kalisto with one arm, Ambrose makes Kalisto versus Strowman for tonight.

Strowman and Kalisto exit the ringside area as Miz criticizes Ambrose for his decisions tonight, Ambrose then makes a match right now between Miz and Finn Balor.

Finn Balor vs. The Miz w/Maryse

The match begins with Miz quickly rolling out of the ring the rethink his strategy, Miz returns to the ring and Balor scores a takedown. Balor starts working over the arm of Miz after a quick pin attempt, Miz catches Balor with a few punches before Balor responds by nailing him with a drop kick. Miz gets angry and charges at Balor to eat another drop kick, Miz misses a charge into the corner before Balor cracks him with an enzaguri. Balor follows that up by knocking Miz out of the ring, Balor follows Miz to the arena floor before throwing him into the barricade. Balor throws Miz into the ring and he looks for the double stomp, but Maryse drags Miz out of the ring as we go to a commercial break.

We return from the break to see Miz kicking a downed Balor in the head for a near fall, Miz then decides to just rip away at the face of Balor. Balor fights back and Miz catches him with a neck breaker for another near fall, Balor looks for the Skull Crushing Finale and Balor rolls him up for a near fall. Miz quickly recovers to hit Balor with a DDT for another two count, Balor fights back and Miz drops him with a knee lift to the midsection. Miz slows things down again by ripping away at the face of Balor before applying the chin lock, Balor fights back again and he eventually drops Miz with a Pele Kick. Miz charges at Balor and he eats some boots to the face, Balor then drops Miz a few times with forearm strikes.

Miz goes to the middle rope and Balor just kicks him in the head, Miz falls to the arena floor and Balor catches him with a baseball slide drop kick followed by a penalty kick. Balor then tosses Miz into the ring and Miz eventually tosses Balor into the referee, who collides into Maryse. Miz grabs the microphone and says that Balor is disqualified for hitting the referee and the referee rings the bell, Miz starts leaving the ring with Maryse and Dean Ambrose restarts the match while banning Maryse from the ring. The match restarts with Balor attacking Miz from behind and tossing him into the ring, Balor then hits Miz with the Sling Blade and a running drop kick. Balor hits Miz with the double stomp from the top rope for the three count.

Winner: Finn Balor

Backstage, WWE Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss is prepping for her match when Nia Jax arrives, Bliss says she has to prepare for Mickie James. Bliss says that she meant what she said when she called Jax great last week, Jax says she wants a title shot after Bliss defends against Bayley. Bliss agrees that she should get the match, but Raw GM Kurt Angle isn’t here tonight to make the match. Jax agrees and says she will be beside Bliss until they have their match.

Non-Title Match: Alexa Bliss (WWE Raw Women’s Champion) w/Nia Jax vs. Mickie James w/Bayley

The match begins with Bliss grabbing the hair of James and forcing her into the corner for a short time, James then takes Bliss down with an arm drag. Bliss recovers and she drops James with an arm drag as well, James gets angry and she puts Bliss down with a Thesz Press. James drops Bliss before kicking her in the head to get a near fall, Bliss misses a clothesline and James drops her with a neck breaker for another near fall. Bliss rolls out of the ring and James nails her with a baseball slide drop kick as we go to a commercial break.

We return from the break to see Bliss dropping James to get a two count on a pin attempt, Bliss traps the arm of James in the ropes while wrenching on it. Bliss gets James out of the corner while continuing to work over her injured arm, James fights back and she nails Bliss with a rope assisted hurricarana. Bliss quickly recovers and she smashes the arm of James on the mat for a near fall, Bliss drops a few elbow drops and knee drops on the injured arm of James. Bliss misses the follow up knee drop and James cracks her with a few clotheslines, James catches Bliss with a spin kick to the midsection followed by a flying forearm for a near fall.

James sets up for the Mick-DT and Bliss blocks it, James instead cracks Bliss with a flapjack before going to the top rope. Jax distracts James and Bayley takes Jax out, Bliss knocks a distracted James off the top rope to get the three count.

Winner: Alexa Bliss w/Nia Jax

After the match, Bayley chases Bliss to the backstage area while Jax nails James with an avalanche in the corner followed by an elbow drop.

Backstage, Dean Ambrose is talking to a production assistant when The Miz and Maryse arrive, Ambrose simply ignores him. Miz wonders where Miz TV is on the schedule and Ambrose announces that it was canceled, Miz then uses his co-GM powers to make Ambrose face Bray Wyatt tonight.

Charly Caruso interviews Samoa Joe, Joe says that the story begins at WWE Payback and not last week on WWE Raw. Joe says that Seth Rollins achieved nothing at WWE Payback and that Rollins lives life on the terms that he sets for him. Rollins attacks Joe from behind and the two start going at it backstage until a team of officials and other personnel break it up.

Highlights are shown of the Dumpster Match a few weeks back between Braun Strowman and Kalisto, including the violent aftermath.

Braun Strowman versus Kalisto starts with Strowman grabbing the microphone and he tells Dean Ambrose to shove it. Strowman says he’s not accepting the match tonight because he was injured by Roman Reigns, the referee rings the bell as Strowman attacks Kalisto.

The match begins with Strowman kicking Kalisto in the head, Strowman continues attacking Kalisto until Roman Reigns hits the ring.

Winner: No Contest

The two have a staredown until Reigns kicks Strowman in his hurt arm, Reigns then drops Strowman after a series of superman punches. Strowman rolls out of the ring and he kicks a charging Reigns in his injured shoulder, Reigns recovers and he shoves Strowman into the ring post. Reigns attacks Strowman further before smashing his injurued arm into the ring post a few more time, Reigns grabs a steel chair and he clobbers Strowman in his hurt shoulder with it a few times. Strowman escapes through the crowd while Reigns stands in the ring with the steel chair.

R-Truth is jamming to some tunes backstage when Goldust approaches him, Goldust says that he has enjoyed teaming with Truth throughout the last year. Goldust says that he and Truth haven’t won any gold together, Goldust wants them to show everybody what they can do tonight.

WWE Raw Tag Team Title #1 Contenders Match - Tag Team Turmoil Match

Enzo Amore & Big Cass vs. Sheamus & Cesaro

The match begins with Cass powering Sheamus into the ropes before eating a kick to the midsection, Sheamus then mauls Cass with strikes in the corner. Cass winds up tossing Sheamus into the corner before assaulting him with strikes of his own, Cass then catches Sheamus with an avalanche followed by a slam. Cass then hits Sheamus with an Empire Elbow before tagging Enzo in, Cesaro interferes and Enzo takes him out. Enzo then hits Sheamus with a top rope high cross body for a near fall, Cesaro distracts Enzo and that allows Sheamus to nail him with the Irish Curse Back Breaker as we go to a commercial break.

We return to see Cesaro stomping on a downed Enzo, Cesaro traps the arm of Enzo before applying the chin lock to him. Cesaro misses a charge to the corner and he winds up nailing the ring post with his shoulder, Cesaro grabs Enzo and he eats an enzaguri. Sheamus interferes and he shoves Cass into the ring post, Cesaro catches Enzo with a running uppercut and a sharp shooter to force a submission.

Eliminated: Enzo Amore & Big Cass

Sheamus & Cesaro vs. Rhyno & Heath Slater

The match begins with all four competitors brawling outside of the ring, Cesaro tosses Rhyno into the barricade as Sheamus tosses Slater into the ringside edge. Sheamus and Cesaro then toss Rhyno into the ring steps, Sheamus and Cesaro trap Slater on the barricade while nailing him with strikes. Cesaro tosses Slater into the ring before stomping on him a few times, Cesaro then twists the head of Slater in some unnatural ways. Slater tries fighting back by nailing Cesaro with a leg lariat, Sheamus tags in and he nails Slater with a top rope diving clothesline for a near fall.

Cesaro decides to attack a downed Rhyno while Sheamus works over Slater in the ring, Sheamus then locks Slater in a chin lock. Cesaro blind tags Sheamus and he nails Slater with a running European uppercut, Sheamus tags in to hit Slater with a Brogue Kick for the three count.

Eliminated: Heath Slater & Rhyno

Sheamus & Cesaro vs. The Club (Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows)

The match started during the commercial break and we return from the break to see Cesaro nailing Anderson with a few punches, Cesaro misses a charge into the corner and Anderson cracks him with a bicycle kick to the head. Gallows tags in and he nails Cesaro with an elbow drop for a near fall, Gallows then attacks Cesaro with a series of elbow strikes. Gallows slows things down further by holding Cesaro in a chin lock, Cesaro fights back by dropping Gallows with a suplex.

Sheamus tags in and he teams with Cesaro to plant Gallows on the mat below, Sheamus starts working over the arm of Gallows. Gallows fights back by dropping Sheamus with a series of punches, Sheamus recovers and he drops Gallows with a clothesline. Sheamus looks for a dive off the top rope and Gallows kicks him on the way down, Anderson tags in and Sheamus nails him with a spine buster. Cesaro then takes on Gallows before Anderson drops him with a spine buster as well, Sheamus catches Gallows with White Noise for a two count and we go to a commercial break.

We return from the break to see Anderson and Gallows hit Sheamus with a double team move for a near fall, The Club looks for the Magic Killer and Cesaro breaks it all up. Sheamus nails Gallows with a Brogue Kick from out of nowhere to get a three count.

Sheamus & Cesaro vs. The The Golden Truth (Goldust & R-Truth)

The match begins with Truth quickly knocking Cesaro out of the ring, Golden Truth hit Sheamus with a double Russian leg sweep for a near fall. Goldust nails a ducking Sheamus with an uppercut followed by a bulldog, Goldust mounts Sheamus in the corner while assaulting him with strikes. Goldust then hits Sheamus with a power slam for a near fall, Cesaro interferes and that allows Sheamus to attack Goldust from behind. Cesaro drags Goldust out of the ring before dropping him knee first on the barricade, Cesaro brings Goldust back into the ring and he works over the injured knee.

Sheamus tags back in and he drops a few knees of his own on the injured knee of Goldust, Sheamus then locks Goldust in the half crab. Cesaro tags in and he continues working over the injured knee of Goldust, Goldust tries fighting back and Cesaro eventually locks him in a sharp shooter. Truth interferes to break up the hold and Goldust eventually tags him in afterwards, Truth cleans house on both members of the opposing team. Truth catches Cesaro with the Lie Detector and the scissors kick for a near fall, Truth misses a charge into the corner and Cesaro rolls him up for the three count.

Eliminated: The Golden Truth

Winners: Sheamus & Cesaro

After the match, Sheamus and Cesaro continue attacking The Golden Truth until The Hardy Boyz hit the ring, but Sheamus and Cesaro quickly exit the ring.

Seth Rollins vs. Samoa Joe

The match begins with Rollins attacking Joe with a series of strikes in the corner, Joe drags Rollins out of the ring and the two continue their brawl out there. Rollins grabs Joe and he throws him into the barricade, Joe gains control and he tosses Rollins back into the ring. Joe traps Rollins in the corner before peppering him with a bunch of jabs, Joe messes up a charge in the corner and Rollins sends him into the turnbuckles. Joe rolls out of the ring and Rollins catches him with a suicide dive, Rollins chases Joe around the ring while landing more strikes. Joe recovers and he throws Rollins into the barricade, Joe tosses Rollins back into the ring and he attacks him with a series of kicks.

Joe traps Rollins in the corner while assaulting him with more strikes, Rollins recovers and he quickly drops Joe with the sling blade for a near fall. Joe recovers to drop a charging Rollins with a back elbow strike, Joe grabs Rollins from behind and he nails him with a headbutt. Rollins tries fighting back and Joe eventually drops him with a suplex, Rollins nails a charging Joe with a back elbow strike before dropping him with a blockbuster. Rollins rolls to the ring apron and Joe drops him to the arena floor with a leg sweep as we go to a commercial break.

We return from the break to see Joe working over a downed Rollins, Joe picks up Rollins just to drop him with a headbutt. Rollins tries fighting back and Joe drops him with knee strikes before landing an elbow strike for a near fall, Rollins escapes a lift from Joe before escaping a rear naked choke. Rollins then sends a charging Joe out of the ring before catching him with multiple suicide dives, Rollins throws Joe in the ring before landing a move from the top rope for a near fall. Joe recovers by nailing a charging Rollins with a chop followed by a powerslam for a near fall, Joe then catches Rollins with a senton bomb for another near fall.

Joe looks for a power bomb and Rollins counters with a falcon arrow for a near fall, Rollins and Joe stand in the middle of the ring while exchanging strikes. Joe looks for the choke and Rollins nails him with an enzaguri, Joe then runs right into the boot of Rollins. Rollins catches Joe with a roll up while removing a turnbuckle pad, Rollins then hits Joe with a super kick for another near fall. Joe recovers by throwing Rollins into the exposed turnbuckle, Joe throws Rollins into the exposed turnbuckle again and the referee disqualifies him.

Winner: Seth Rollins, by DQ

After the match, Joe continues throwing Rollins into the exposed turnbuckle before locking him in the choke.

Neville heads to the announce table to handle some commentary duties for the next match.

TJP vs. Jack Gallagher

The match begins with TJP standing on the middle rope while mocking Gallagher, TJP gets off the ropes and Gallagher drops him with a headbutt for a near fall. TJP rolls out of the ring and Gallagher throws him right back in the ring, TJP escapes the ring again and he drops Gallagher into the ring steps. TJP throws Gallagher into the ring before hitting him with a rope assisted swanton bomb for a near fall, TJP ties up Gallagher while looking for a submission. Gallagher recovers and he catches TJP with a series of drops kicks followed by an exploder suplex, TJP rolls up Gallagher with a handful of tights for the three count.

Winner: TJP

After the match, TJP assaults Gallagher from behind and he works over his knee before applying a reverse figure 4 leg lock. Austin Aries appears from the crowd and he gets TJP off of Gallagher.

Sasha Banks vs. Alicia Fox

The match begins with the ladies having a shoving and slapping contest in the middle of the ring, Fox nails Banks with a kick to the midsection before pushing her to the ground. Fox nails Banks with a Northern lights suplex for a near fall, Fox slows things down by holding Banks in a chin lock. Banks breaks free and she drops Fox with a head scissors and double running knee strike, Fox recovers and misses a scissors kick. Fox places Banks on the turnbuckles before following her up there, Fox looks for a suplexplex and Banks knocks her off the ropes. Banks catches Fox with a double knee strike from the top rope for the three count.

Winner: Sasha Banks

The Miz and Maryse are at the commentary table for the next match.

Non-Title Match: Dean Ambrose (WWE Intercontinental Champion) vs. Bray Wyatt

The match begins with Wyatt powering Ambrose into the corner and nobody gains the edge, Wyatt misses a charge into the corner and Ambrose creates space. Ambrose starts attacking Wyatt with a series of strikes, Wyatt slows Ambrose down and he chokes him on the middle rope. Wyatt follows Ambrose around the ring while nailing him with a few strikes, Ambrose then sends a charging Wyatt out of the ring before catching him with a suicide dive. Ambrose throws Wyatt back into the ring and Wyatt rolls back out, Wyatt punches Ambrose before suplexing him from the middle rope to the arena floor.

Wyatt tosses Ambrose back into the ring to get a near fall on a pin attempt as we go to a commercial break, we return from the break to see Wyatt nailing Ambrose with an avalanche in the corner. Ambrose tries fighting back and Wyatt drops him with a DDT for the near fall, Wyatt slows things down by holding Ambrose in a modified camel clutch. Ambrose breaks the grip of Wyatt by catching him with a jaw breaker, Wyatt recovers and drops Ambrose with a clothesline for a near fall. Wyatt goes to the middle rope and he misses the senton bomb as Ambrose moves out of the way, Ambrose drops Wyatt with a few clotheslines.

Ambrose then catches Wyatt with a running forearm strike in the corner, Wyatt rolls out of the ring and Ambrose dives onto him from the top rope. Ambrose throws Wyatt back into the ring and Wyatt nails him with a running cross body, The Miz and Maryse head to ringside while everybody is down. Ambrose counters a Sister Abigail from Wyatt with a roll up for a near fall, Wyatt then hits Ambrose with a uranage for another near fall. Wyatt traps Ambrose in the corner before putting him on the top rope, Wyatt follows him up there and he looks for the superplex.

Ambrose fights Wyatt and knocks him off the ropes, Ambrose dives off the top rope and eats a punch before dropping Wyatt with a clothesline. The Miz distracts Ambrose and Ambrose nails him with a suicide dive, Wyatt attacks Ambrose on the arena floor and Ambrose tosses him into the barricade. Ambrose throws Wyatt into the ring and Miz hits Ambrose with the WWE Intercontinental Title behind the referee’s back, Wyatt gets a near fall on the pin attempt on Ambrose. Wyatt hits Ambrose with Sister Abigail for the three count.

Winner: Bray Wyatt

After the match, The Miz attacks Ambrose before telling him that he will become the new WWE Intercontinental Champion next week.
