Cody Rhodes: It's My Job To Do What Others Haven't Done For Me; Give Someone Deserving The Spotlight

Cody Rhodes wants to continue to spotlight the young talent in AEW.

Cody wrestled Sammy Guevara in the first-ever match on AEW Dynamite. During his AEW TNT Title run, his matches with Eddie Kingston and Ricky Starks helped land them jobs in the company. He passed the torch to Darby Allin when he lost the AEW TNT Title at Full Gear 2020.

Speaking to Scott Fishman of TV Insider, Cody discussed how he relishes putting the spotlight on those who deserve it.

"I feel vindicated that my actual job as the executive vice president of live events and talent is being seen. It’s my job to do what others haven’t done in the past for me: When someone is deserving or ready, give them [the spotlight]. Darby, Ricky, and Jade are prime examples. It is very comforting to see because there is the misconception that I’m the booker of AEW or that I even run AEW. Here you get the opportunity to see Tony Khan as such a unique leader. I help coach segments, produce content. The number one thing that is my job no matter how much of a wrestler I am is to continue building our roster so we are going to talk about AEW not only today but 30 years from now," he said.

Cody is set to take on Malakai Black on Wednesday's AEW Dynamite Grand Slam. Cody made his return to television on the September 15 episode of Dynamite after being away since August 4 after losing to Black.

Fightful will have live coverage of AEW Dynamite Grand Slam beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
