Chris Masters: Tyrus Didn’t Necessarily Deserve My Frustration, But He’s Got A Big Ego, He’ll Be Okay

Chris Masters comments on a tweet that got him some backlash.

On September 13, 2023, Chris Masters took to social media to tweet, "Hey @nwa. Is it ok to say now that our fans didn’t reject Tyrus due to politics or Fox News. IT WAS CAUSE HE CAN’T MOVE."

The tweet came after Tyrus had lost the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title to EC3. Tyrus' reign came with plenty of criticism from fans who did not enjoy watching him wrestle.

Speaking to Jeremy Lambert & Joel Pearl on In The Weeds, Masters was asked if he got any heat from the tweet.

"Yeah, absolutely. That was a big rift with Billy [Billy Corgan] and myself. You can probably tell by the way I worded that tweet that I was so fed up anyway. It’s not like I didn’t expect some blow back if I was going to say that. I do feel bad when I think back to it because Tyrus ended up being cannon fodder for what was the real situation, which was my frustration with Billy. At the same time, he’s got a lot of great things going for him and I feel I was in the NWA for so long, at some point, up is up, down is down, good is good, and shit is shit. I’m not going to live this lie. It got to the point where I was like, ‘This is the way it is.’ Tyrus didn’t necessarily deserve that, but he’s got a big ego, he’ll be okay," he said.

Masters wrestled at NWA Samhain in October 2023 after the tweet, but hasn't been back in the promotion since.

Elsewhere during the interview, he explained that he is no longer working with the NWA. You can find his full comments on his NWA departure by clicking here.
