The 2024 CMLL Universal Champion has been crowned.
On the 4/26/2023 edition of CMLL's "Viernes Espectacular", CMLL celebrated Arena Mexico's 68th Anniversary by hosting the final match of their annual tourney to crown the Universal Champion, which is a champion of champions tournament, and the winner has now been decided.
The finals were a Triple Threat Elimination Match featuring the CMLL World Historic Welterweight Champion Mascara Dorada, the CMLL World Welterweight Champion Titán, and Magnus, one-half of the CMLL Mexican National Tag Team Champions.
During the match, Mascara Dorada eliminated Magnus after hitting a 450 Splash for the pinfall elimination. After a heated exchange between Titán & Mascara Dorada, Dorada ended proceedings by catching Titán with the Drilla Killa Piledriver before hitting a Shooting Star Press for the win, crowning himself as the 2024 CMLL Universal Champion.
Dorada became the 12th-ever Men's Universal Champion, the youngest wrestler ever to win the Universal Title at 22 years old. Dragon Rojo Jr was the 2023 winner of this tournament, outlasting Atlantis Jr and Templario. Previous winners of the Universal Title include Mistico, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and La Sombra (now known as Andrade El Idolo).
