Blue Panther Talks About CMLL Alliances, Challenging Again for MLW Openweight Title

Blue Panther talks about challenging once again for the MLW National Openweight Title, and the alliances CMLL has with AEW, MLW, NJPW, and more.

The legendary grappler from Gomez Palacio, Blue Panther, will be challenging for the MLW National Openweight Title on the 9/21 edition of CMLL Domingo Familiar. This event will be hosted to celebrate National Wrestler Day in Mexico.

Ahead of his match, Panther spoke with Fightful’s own Luis Pulido about his upcoming rematch against Guerrero and hoped to walk out of Arena Mexico as champion. He stated the following:

Thank you very much once again, and let’s take a moment to remember or summarize what is celebrated here in Mexico on September 21, which is National Wrestlers’ Day. I’m not sure when it is celebrated internationally. Still, here in Mexico, it is celebrated on the 21st, two days after our 92nd anniversary, which is the most significant event we have year after year, and where we all want to participate in that great event, which is the anniversary of the World Wrestling Council. But here it is more than an anniversary; it is a recognition of everything and all the great masters of wrestling, as well as all the great promoters, who on September 21, 1933, made wrestling known nationwide. That is when it was established here in the Mexican Republic and celebrated, celebrated on the 21st. And this 21st will be no exception.

I am going to face one of the best wrestlers currently on the international wrestling scene. It’s no longer at the national level; it’s at the global level, Ultimo Guerrero. A great wrestler, an athlete, a symbol of the Comarca Lagunera region, a person from whom we must learn. On this occasion, he is giving me a rematch. A month ago, I challenged him for this exact title, but he was better than me by seconds, I admit it. But this time, he’s giving me a rematch, and we’re going to double down our efforts to see if this belt ends up around my waist and I can be proclaimed the Openweight champion.

With my chance for revenge, we’re going to double down our efforts to get the belt around my waist. I can proclaim myself the MLW champion so that when I go to Los Angeles, California, on October 4, I get there with that belt in my backpack and show all Americans, all Latinos, all fans that I defeated Ultimo Guerrero.

Defeating Ultimo Guerrero would catapult me to international levels. He is one of the top figures who is making a lot of noise right now. In MLW, he is their champion, he is the one who welcomes the stars, and he is the one who is constantly with them. So, what can I say? I am delighted and very grateful to wrestling for giving me these opportunities. And more than anything, I am redoubling my efforts because this is an opportunity. It’s not a window that’s opening for me; it’s a massive gate to get to the big leagues where I want to be.”

Panther also spoke about CMLL’s alliances alongside AEW, NJPW, MLW, and many others. He explained it was the right time for the alliances to help grow CMLL to an international level.

“I believe that God’s timing is perfect, neither too early nor too late. A few years ago, there were certain alliances, but they were not as strong as they are today. There were alliances between international companies in the Japanese and French markets.

That said, none went to the extent they are now, with a very enthusiastic attitude towards each other. And apart from that, they are taking advantage of these alliances to grow further in wrestling globally. This is now a global level, no longer a national one. The company is getting even stronger through these alliances. We’ve experienced a worldwide boom in wrestling in Mexico, France, Japan, China, the United States, Canada, and Central America within five to 10 months. We cannot exclude Central and South America. In Central America, we have companies that can support us. There is a company, not a very large one, in Costa Rica, and we have an alliance there.

In other words, all of this is to nurture wrestling. Therefore, all companies, regardless of their size, take this into account and grow. Wrestling is already a universal language; it is no longer a language of athletes. It is a universal language for anyone who loves, wants, and respects wrestling.”

Panther will be appearing on October 4 on MLW Slaughterhouse. His match has not yet been announced.

Guerrero will face Mistico in the First Round of the Opera Cup on the same event.

Fightful will have results for both shows.
