Former UFC Fighter Suman Mokhtarian Shot Dead In Sydney, Australia

This occurred just one year after an attempt was made on his life.

There’s a story up on ESPN’s official website about UFC fighter turned MMA coach Suman Mokhtarian being shot dead in Sydney, Australia. Local police believe it was a targeted attack.

Mokhtarian was killed while walking in a suburb of Sydney around 6 PM on October 8th. Emergency services were called to the scene to tend to his gunshot wounds, but he passed away at the scene.

Mokhtarian fought in the UFC once in 2018 and once in 2019. He then moved to coaching and helped prospects at Australian Top Team alongside his brother, Ashkan Mokhtarian. The following is the official police statement, which notes that a second crime scene has been established and they are working to see if the two are linked.

A man has died in a public place shooting in Sydney’s west today. About 6pm today, emergency services were called to Annaluke Street, Riverstone, following reports of a shooting.

Officers attached to Riverstone Police Area Command attended and found a man suffering gunshot wounds. He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, however he died at the scene. The man is yet to be formally identified.

Police established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident. A short time later, about 6.15pm, emergency services were called to Riverstone Road, Riverstone, near Clark Street, following reports of a car fire.

Fire and Resue [SIC] NSW crews attended and extinguished the blaze, however, the vehicle was destroyed. Police have established a second crime scene and are working to establish whether the two incidents are linked.

In February 2024, there was an assassination attempt on Mokhtarian’s life outside the Australian Top Team’s gym in a Sydney suburb.
