Scott D’Amore Recounts TNA/IMPACT Wanting To Sign Joe Hendry Before He Signed Deal With ROH In 2019
Before Joe Hendry signed with ROH, TNA/IMPACT wanted to sign him.
TNA Wrestling President Scott D’Amore pushed out a new write-up of his D’Amore Drop column on Uncrowned. One of the subjects he touched on was the news, which was first reported by Fightful Select, that Joe Hendry signed with WWE.
Hendry had been under contract to WWE’s partner, TNA Wrestling. D’Amore remembers when he was first made aware of Hendry and shared that TNA/IMPACT had intentions of signing him, but there was a visa issue. When that issue got resolved, Ring of Honor signed Hendry in 2019 before IMPACT could get him.
Not long after, I was in the UK for TNA (then called IMPACT!) and Drumbie had already gotten in Joe’s ear. We met with Joe and he couldn’t have been more impressive. We wanted to sign him there and then, but he didn’t have a U.S. visa, so we did a handful of Canadian dates in 2018 and said we’d work together in the future.
Unfortunately for us, when he did get his U.S. visa, Ring of Honor snapped him up for a couple of years. But as soon as that was up, we moved immediately to get him to come to TNA.
Hendry was in action in the opening match of NXT Gold Rush week one. He teamed with Thea Hail, and they unsuccessfully challenged Ethan Page and Chelsea Green for the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship.
