Yota Tsuji: “NJPW Is Nothing Without Its Young Lions”
Tsuji shows his appreciation for the Young Lion system.
It was at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 20 where Yota Tsuji defeated Konosuke Takeshita to retain the IWGP Global Heavyweight Title and capture the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.
NJPW1972.com conducted an extensive interview with Tsuji two weeks after Wrestle Kingdom, and he shared a moment he had with Young Lion and Unbound Company faction member Daiki Nagai. It occurred during Tsuji’s entrance at Wrestle Kingdom, and he went on to state that NJPW is nothing without its Young Lions.
“It was louder than any Tokyo Dome crowd I’ve experienced up to now. It made me happy to be a NJPW wrestler, and at the same time, I felt, this is what NJPW really is, what it should be. Daiki Nagai was seconding me, and when I handed my entrance gown to him, I told him we have to make it like this next year and the year after that. That was an important moment. NJPW is nothing without its Young Lions, and all of them have to have a clear eye on the future to come.”
Daiki Nagai was competing in the 2026 Young Lion Cup, but he was eliminated in the semifinal by Katsuya Murashima. The final of the Young Lion Cup will see Shoma Kato versus Murashima, and that match is taking place on February 1st at Road to The New Beginning.
