Kia Stevens (Awesome Kong) Feels She Would Still Be In AEW If She Debuted ‘Just A Little Bit Later’ Than She Did
Stevens looks back at her time in All Elite Wrestling.
During All Elite Wrestling’s launch year in 2019, Kia Stevens (Awesome Kong) was brought into the fold to be part of the women’s division.
She wrestled in five matches for the company from 2019 to 2020, and her last match was at a January 1st taping of AEW Dark. Stevens reflected on her time there while on Busted Open. She feels she would still be with the company if she had debuted later than she did. Stevens added that at the time, she was tied up with outside projects.
“Well, I tell you, I was really surprised yet so appreciative of the response of the night when I came out during that show (Double or Nothing 2019). The response was overwhelming. It felt like this force that went through my soul, and I think the timing just wasn’t right. AEW was in its honeymoon, teething stage and I was busy with G.L.O.W. and other things and whatnot, and so there were a lot of moving parts in my career at that time, and I’m one to always try to, well, you know, the fans demand it, you’ll do it. But, at that time, it probably would have been better if I would have gotten to AEW just a little bit later, then I probably would have still been there.”
In a past media appearance, Stevens stated that her departure from AEW was amicable and shared that AEW President Tony Khan paid her despite her not being able to travel to shows during the COVID-19 pandemic.
