Royce Keys: I’m Grateful For My Past, But It’s Not Going To Define What I’m About To Do
Royce Keys made his WWE debut at the Royal Rumble, but was then off television until April.
Keys joined WWE from AEW, where he was known as Powerhouse Hobbs, and during his time away from TV, fans quickly criticized his move given that his previous position in AEW where he was a Trios Champion and featured weekly.
Speaking to Kazeem Famuyide and Ben Cruz of Ringer Wrestling, Keys was asked how he blocks out the noise when fans are quicker to criticize wrestlers who jump from one promotion to the other if things aren’t an immediate success.
“That’s my past. If I focus on my past, I’m not going to succeed for my future. It was cool because I sat down with Hunter and asked if I could do these dark (matches) and he looked at me and said, ‘Fuck yeah. This dude wants to get it.’ I want to learn and I want to be here. All that past stuff, I’m grateful for it, but it’s not going to define what I’m about to do. Your past sets you up for your future,” he said.
Keys did compete in dark matches before his SmackDown debut.
He won the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal on the SmackDown before WrestleMania.
