Maven Says D-Von Dudley Saved Him From Missing WWE Flight While He Was Intoxicated

Maven recalls being too intoxicated and D-Von Dudley saving him.

Last year, D-Von Dudley shared a story about saving Maven in England in an interview with Chris Van Vliet. Maven himself was recently interviewed by Chris, where he shared his version of the same story on Insight With Chris Van Vliet.

“Unfortunately, there is some truth behind it. I’m trying to figure out how I can tell this without getting the people down. We were on an overseas trip in England. European tour. I decide to go out and hang out with some of the vets. I’ll leave it at that. Two guys, household names. You would know them. I will not tell you who. There used to be a substance culture in wrestling that I’m happy they’re moving away from. These veterans, ‘Maven, you want this?’ ‘Yep.’

Let’s just say that the end result was me face down on a bed and D-Von trying to get me dressed to get to a flight leaving the continent. I’m begging him, ‘Can I shower?’ He’s like, ‘No, we need to be downstairs in 10 minutes.’ He came to my room strictly just to make sure I would be down there. Like, I’d still be there lying in that damn hotel bed if he wouldn’t have because I didn’t have a clock set. The elevator opens up, we’re checking out of the hotel, and that’s when Jim Ross walks up. D-Von puts his arm around me. He looks at me, and he says, ‘Don’t say a F-ing word.’ Of course, good ol’ JR comes out. I’m like, ‘What’s up, JR?’ and I feel D-Von just grab and squeeze. For those of you that know old man strength, like D-Von got old man strength. So when he squeezes you, you feel it. But he saved me that day. He got me on the plane.“
