Luke Menzies (Ridge Holland) Says WWE Set Up Big E Apology Promo, Then Canceled It At The Last Second To Mess With Him

Luke Menzies says he was supposed to do an apology promo after the Big E accident.

In March 2022, Big E suffered an injury during a tag team match with Kofi Kingston vs. Sheamus and Luke Menzies (then known as Ridge Holland). This match put a halt to Big E’s pro wrestling career as he got injured after a botched belly-to-belly suplex from Menzies.

Speaking on Wrestling Life recently, Menzies opened up about a segment he was booked for after Big E got injured, but it got cancelled at the very last second.

“I remember the week after we were supposed to go out for a segment on SmackDown. Vince [McMahon] arranged for me to cut an apology promo just before we were about to go out live. Now, I don’t know if this was a test. Pretty poor taste. But we were about to go out for our segment. It was live. I remember him counting me down. It was just like an apology thing, and I didn’t know what I was going to say. I was just going to be as real as I could, speak from the heart. It went like 10, 9, 8, and it got to 5, 4… then I saw Vince, Bruce just go like nah. They cut it at the last minute, the last second. Then we just went out for the segment, and I thought from then on, I never felt the same way about the company. I thought that they just did that to mess with me.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Menzies said that he got hurt more in pro wrestling than in his rugby league career. Fans can read his comments here.
