Hiroshi Tanahashi Feels There Will Never Be Another Wrestler Like Him, Even 100 Years From Now

Candid comments from Hiroshi Tanahashi.
There’s an extensive interview that BusinessPlus conducted with New Japan Pro-Wrestling President Hiroshi Tanahashi.
During the chat, he was asked what he envisions as the ideal pro wrestler and named himself. Tanahashi went on to say that even 100 years from now, there will never be another wrestler like him.
“That would have to be me, of course. I don’t think a wrestler like me will ever emerge again, even 100 years from now. But putting that aside (laughs), I realized during the pandemic that professional wrestling only truly comes alive when it’s seen by the fans. The fans cheer us on, and the energy of the wrestlers—fueled by that support—is then returned to the fans. The wrestling venue is like a power spot. That’s why I believe the ideal pro wrestler is someone who can make the joy of others their own joy. At least, that’s what I’ve always strived for. I can push through grueling training and matches precisely because I know it brings joy to the fans. I want to pass that feeling on to future wrestlers. Of course, I feel this applies not only to pro wrestlers but to professionals in any field.”
Tanahashi’s 26-year in-ring career came to an end at Wrestle Kingdom 20, where he was defeated by Kazuchika Okada.
