The Undertaker: Sting And I Were Both Confused Why We Never Wrestled. It Was A Big Miss

For years, fans clamored for Sting vs. The Undertaker as they were the two faces of their respective franchises during the Monday Night Wars.

It looked possible at WrestleMania 31 after Sting had signed with WWE in 2014, but instead Sting faced Triple H and The Undertaker faced Bray Wyatt.

Speaking on Six Feet Under, Taker was asked why the match with Sting never came to fruition.

“People had been clamoring for that match for a long time. It seemed like a no-brainer, why on earth would you not do that? For whatever reason, Vince didn’t see it, didn’t like it, didn’t want it. ‘This is a home run. This is an easy main event for a pay-per-view.’ I don’t really have an answer. I never really had an in-depth conversation with Vince about why he didn’t want to do it. He obviously knows more business than I do, but that one seemed like a home run and they decided to walk the guy instead of pitch to him. I don’t know what happened there.

“I don’t have any regrets because it wasn’t my decision. I would’ve loved to been able to have that match. It just wasn’t meant to be. Seemed like a no-brainer. Now, it’ll be discussed for the rest of time, ‘What if?’ I remember running into Sting after the WrestleMania we didn’t work, we were on the same plane together talking, and we were like, ‘I don’t know. This is beyond me. I don’t know why.’ That’s probably got to be the biggest miss for WrestleMania. Those two characters would’ve done some incredible business. Wasn’t me.”

Sting would wrestle three more times in WWE before having to retire due to injury. He returned to the ring in 2021 with AEW.

Both men are now retired and the match is unlikely to ever happen.
