Dann Read: Everything About Clockwork Carnage Was Created By Will Ospreay Himself

Dann Read discusses the Clockwork Carnage match that debuted in Pro Wrestling EVE, and will debut at AEW WrestleDream later this month.

It was recently announced that the Clockwork Carnage match would be coming to AEW at the pay-per-view, with Will Ospreay defending the AEW World Championship at the event in the match. The match had previously appeared in Pro Wrestling EVE, a promotion that Ospreay works closely with on the creative side.

While speaking to Fightful’s In The Weeds in a new interview, Dann Read confirmed to Jeremy Lambert and SP3 that the match was entirely created in the mind of Will Ospreay.

“The thing I will say is, like you said on the introduction, I think it was like an EVE creation. It is a Will creation. This is legitimate. Everything from the concept to the rules to the name, everything about it was created by Will Ospreay himself.”

Dann continued, noting the process that Will goes through when he is creating new ideas for EVE.

“To be honest, Will is a very creative individual. So, like, when will is regularly pitching things, or if he’s not necessarily pitching,  he’s often- you’re with him along the process. Like, he’ll be like, ‘I’ve got this idea for this. It’s kind of like this. I’m still working and fine-tuning things at the moment, though, but this is what I’m thinking.’ He also invites you to come along with him. Will doesn’t have an ego. There isn’t a case of, like, him saying no no no it’s like he has a vision, but he’s there inviting people to collaborate with, which is a very key element, rather than just trying to put words or things into other people. He’s there to work with, not to make you work for, and I think that’s a key difference there that some people necessarily don’t have in places, and so it wasn’t really like, I, I don’t even really remember the first time he said, because, you know, so much comes up in our conversations and it will just naturally happen where he’ll mention ‘I’m working on this, you know, I’m thinking this, what do you think?’ and it will just progress over time until he’s like, ‘right, got it,’ and then you’ll start looking ahead to the year. So like, Will’s had this in his back pocket for a while and it was literally a case of, right, what show does it make sense that we can put this on where we’ve got the right cast? When we’ve had X, what shows that we’ve had before and how we can lead into, like for us here, this is a great opportunity for us to lead into Elite Encounters in November. We’ve got a big November weekend on November 6th and 8th. And I will plug that will be on my AEW and, of course, on YouTube as well, WatchEveWrestling.com. You know, and so for us, we were able to use, you know, this match to help set up some matches.”

Dann would finish by putting a spotlight on Ospreay’s passion for the wrestling industry.

“So, yeah, I know I’ve kind of gone back onto that. But, yeah, Will was a very creative guy, an extremely passionate guy. I mean, this is a dude that on the weekend of All In, like, he was still there producing EVE the day before, or he was wrestling at RevPro the day before, and the day before that, he was producing Eve, and he’s not just there, like, just on headset or anything. You know, he’s, you know, if something needs to be done, he’s doing it. He’s jumping. This is a guy that leads with passion. I think that’s the reason why you get these kind of matches and concepts and everything come up from him, because he’s leading with passion and ideas to just make everything better.”
