John Cena Agreed To Do ‘Matchbox: The Movie’ Without Reading A Script

John Cena rolled the dice on ‘Matchbox’.
The movie, which also features other names like Jessica Biel and Teyonah Parris, is set to hit Apple TV on Friday, October 9. When considering a movie role, Cena is usually looking for three things — great producers, a passionate director, and a good story/script.
As it turns out, Cena only had two of those three things when he agreed to do ‘Matchbox’.
“Matchbox is the only one recently that I’ve had two of the three, I had no script for this one. Skydance promised me that, ‘Hey, we’re partnering with Apple on this one, you did Barbie and you saw how Mattel is with their IP, they’re not looking over your shoulder or forcing you to do anything. We haven’t given you the script yet because we don’t feel it’s in a right place, trust me, it’s going to be there.’ I rolled the dice given their track record and they delivered. We had Skydance and Sam Hargrave. I knew with Sam, there’s no lack of passion. That dude lives by pushing the envelope, that’s how he goes through life, pushing the envelope on life. He’s awesome, very aspirational human being. So, I just rolled the dice that the book would be great. I got to admit, I was skeptical.”
Elsewhere in a separate interview, Cena recalled his wife being on set for one of the movie’s big scenes. Check out his full story by clicking here.
