Chris Jericho Recalls Tough Interview With Mike Tyson

Back in August, Chris Jericho welcomed boxing legend and wrestling fan Mike Tyson onto his podcast. Given Tyson's storied boxing career, his involvement in pro wrestling, and his movie cameos; it would seem like Tyson would have plenty to talk about on the podcast.

He didn't.

‘Iron Mike’ had little to no interest in engaging with Jericho, making for an awkward interview where the guest said very little.

Appearing on Squared Circle Pit, Jericho talked about having to carry the interview with Tyson.

“(Mike Tyson) didn’t want to talk. He was giving me one-word answers. Guess what? I gotta get a show. So you know what I decided? Alright, Mike. You don’t want to talk to me? You can sit there and listen while I talk to you. And that’s what happened. 40-minutes of me talking, 7-minutes of him giving one-word answers, and we got a show out of it. Was it great? I’m not sure it was great. But was it a great test for me as an interviewer? By far.”

Despite Tyson being a tough interview on that day, Jericho said it was one of his favorite podcasts because of how it challenged him. However, he did say, “If you’re going to do an interview, do an interview.”

Back in January 2010, Tyson knocked out Jericho during a segment on Raw, turning on him to rejoin Degeneration X, 12 years later. Tyson was involved in one of the biggest angles in wrestling history in 1998 when he was inserted into the feud between Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin leading up to WrestleMania 14.
