Cub Swanson Explains Why He Should Get Featherweight Title Shot

MMA

While Max Holloway was busy winning the undisputed UFC Featherweight Title at UFC 212, featherweight contender Cub Swanson was busy behind the desk at the Fox Sports 1 studio.

Now that Holloway is looking to make his first title defense, the contender Swanson pleads his case as to why he should be getting that title shot.

“The only thing is (Edgar has) had how many title fights? How many chances?” Swanson said on the UFC 212 post-fight show. “My whole career – I’ve been with the company 11 years now – I’ve never fought for a title. I’ve been right there. I’ve had it promised. I’ve had it taken away. I think it’s the most exciting fight and it makes the most sense.”

Swanson and Holloway have met inside the Octagon once before, in which Holloway submitted Swanson at UFC On Fox 15 over two years ago.

The featherweight acknowledges that Holloway won the first fight fair and square, but feels things would be differently in a rematch.

“I don’t think I fought very good; he was the better man that night,” Swanson said. “I had a couple injuries in the fight that just made me tank. He beat me up good. I went back to the drawing board. I’ve come back stronger. I’ve proved that. I think I deserve another shot, and I think it’s the most exciting fight you can make right now.”

UFC Fight Night 108 was the last time UFC fans saw Swanson compete, which was a decision win over Artem Lobov.
