Dana White Says GSP’s Return Is Going To Be A Welterweight Title Fight

Former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre was set to return to MMA and face UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping, but then UFC President Dana White canceled the fight.

Now the UFC President says when GSP does return to the Octagon, the fighter is going to be fighting for the UFC Welterweight Title instead of the UFC Middleweight Title.

"[St-Pierre] says he will fight whoever the 170-pound champion is when he comes back," White said to TSN.

Bisping recently stated that he is dealing with a knee injury and he’s willing to wait until late 2017 to fight the former welterweight kingpin, but that no longer seems like a possibility.

However, White has a different idea for the middleweight champion and it includes the possible creation of an interim middleweight title.

"We're trying to put together that Bisping-Romero fight," White said. "If [Bisping] can't fight this summer, we'll probably create an interim title between Romero and Robert Whittaker."

The UFC Welterweight Champion is Tyron Woodley, who has made notions in the past about fighting GSP, including calling the former welterweight champion a coward.

Whether he is challenging for the welterweight title or the middleweight title, it is going to be the first time GSP has competed inside the Octagon in just over four years.
