A middleweight division bout with potential title implications has been announced for UFC 205 as former middleweight champion Chris Weidman will be facing Yoel Romero.
Weidman (13-1-0), will be competing for the first time since losing the UFC Middleweight Title to Luke Rockhold at UFC 194. Romero (11-1-0) is going to be competing for the first time since he was popped by USADA for a failed drug test following a win over Ronaldo Souza at UFC 194.
The former middleweight champion in Chris Weidman has been campaigning to get on the UFC 205 card since it was announced, the card will be the first UFC event in decades to hail from New York, the home state of the former middleweight champion. Romero has been undefeated thus far in his seven fight UFC campaign, his lone loss as a professional came to Rafael Cavalcante at a Strikeforce event in September 2011.
The current UFC Middleweight Champion, Michael Bisping, will be defending that championship in a rematch against Dan Henderson, Henderson brutally knocked out Bisping in their first meeting at UFC 100. This fight between Weidman and Romero will join an already stacked card that will see Donald Cerrone face Robbie Lawler, Al Iaquinta face Thiago Alves and Tim Kennedy face Rashad Evans. UFC President Dana White has stated in recent interviews that he plans on making UFC 205 as stacked card in the same fashion as UFC 200, he is well on his way to accomplishing that goal.
UFC 205 will be taking place on November 12th from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York and there is no main event fight announced thus far.
