Johnny Mundo Drops Hint About Lucha Underground Season 4 Start Date

A seemingly off-hand comment by John Morrison and a little bit of calendar math provide new insight on when Lucha Underground will begin taping its fourth season.

Appearing on Colt Cabana's Art of Wrestling podcast to promote his new movie, "Boone The Bounty Hunter", Morrison said the following regarding the Lucha Underground schedule:

Swerve Strickland Stomps Security Guards, Samoa Joe Stands Tall On 4/17 AEW Dynamite

"We'll shoot, like, five episodes a weekend and so we'll work our balls off for like three or four months, and then we have this huge offseason. This hiatus we're in now, we're going to be maybe 16 months between taping seasons three and four, which, man, is like an eternity in the mind of a pro wrestler."

Lucha Underground wrapped its tapings for Season 3 last April which, based on Morrison's comment about a 16-month hiatus, would have tapings for Lucha Underground Season 4 beginning at the end of August or in early September. The Wrestling Observer reported late last year that Season 4 tapings were on track to begin in October. Other media outlets have speculated it could be December or even January before the next set of tapings.

Morrison, who wrestles as Johnny Mundo in Lucha Underground and went to the mid-season hiatus for Season 3 as the reigning Lucha Underground Champion, had some kind words about the creative freedom he possesses in Lucha Underground -- especially compared to his tenure in WWE.

"Now it feels like I'm part of a collaboration and I'm talking about storylines," Morrison said, "I'm talking about how we can put matches together, where we're going to go, what;s going to happen with Lucha Underground as a promotion, what's going to happen with my character. And I was back in, suddenly. I felt like the creative autonomy that I didn't have in WWE, I finally had."

Morrison recently faced fellow Lucha Underground competitor Brian Cage at Wrestle Circus' latest event -- a match that saw Morrison take a scary spill to the floor. That Wrestle Circus card also had Cabana in action.
