A fighter winning their MMA debut is nothing new, but that concept was taken to a whole new level at this past weekends DEEP JEWELS 16 event.

The fighter making her MMA debut that night was Momo Shimizu, who competed at the ripe old age of 12 years old.

While that may seem like an outrageous thing to most MMA fans, Japanese MMA often uses wild gimmicks.

At the DEEP JEWELS 16 event, the 12 year old not only won her fight, but choked out her 24 year old opponent in Momoko Yamazaki in the first round.

Here are a few pictures and videos of the action.

Prior to her MMA debut, the manager for Momo issued a statement to the media on her combat sports experience:

“Momo has been training MMA six times a week at least three hours a day ever since when she was in the kindergarten. Momo already had over 100 amateur BJJ, kickboxing, and karate matches, therefore, she has far more experience in combat sports than her upcoming opponent Ms. Momoko Yamazaki. [...] On May 20th, we all strongly believe Momo would beat Yamazaki. I think it’s gonna be a public humiliation for Yamazaki.”

There’s no word on when the pre-teen will compete next..
