Alistair Overeem Would Be “Honored” To Fight Jon Jones

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is moving up to heavyweight and one person who would like to fight him is Alistair Overeem.

Not only does Overeem want to fight Jones, but he would be honored to battle the former light heavyweight champion.

“Yes, I would do it,” Overeem said during the UFC Vegas 9 media day (via Alexander K. Lee of MMA Fighting). “I think it’s a great fight. I would feel honored.”

Overeem, before any potential Jones bout can come together, will first face Augusto Sakai tomorrow night in the main event of UFC Vegas 9. The heavyweight star also believes that adding Jones to the heavyweight division is a great move.

“I think it’s a great addition to the heavyweight division,” Overeem said. “I’m actually excited. Fresh blood. I’ve trained with him, he’s very capable. He’s tough, he’s good. So I’m excited about that development.”

UFC Vegas 9 takes place on Saturday, September 5 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada with Alistair Overeem and Augusto Sakai headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
