Anthony Pettis Plans On Tearing Up The Welterweight Division

Former UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis makes his welterweight division debut in the main event of UFC Fight Night Nashville, facing Stephen Thompson.

The newly minted welterweight doesn’t just plan on competing in the weight class, but also wants to tear it up.

“Top 10 (of the lightweight division), I pretty much fought them all,” Pettis said to MMA Junkie. “Time for a new division, new set of faces. There are some good fights for me. I’m about to tear it up. I just feel so good.”

Welterweight is the third weight class that Pettis has competed in, as the fighter has previously competed at lightweight and featherweight. Pettis did challenge for the UFC Interim Featherweight Title, but fell to Max Holloway at UFC 206

Pettis also says that competing at welterweight has allowed him to prepare for the fights themselves instead of just cutting weight.

“This time I feel like I got ready for a fight, not a weight cut,” Pettis said. “So I feel amazing.”

UFC Fight Night Nashville takes place on Saturday, March 23 from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee with Stephen Thompson and Anthony Pettis headlining. Fightful is going to be providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
