One Championships Welterweight Champion Ben Askren will retire this coming November at this November’s One Championships event, the retiring fighter’s last opponent is going to be former One Championships Lightweight Champion Shinya Aoki.
Evolve MMA founder Chatri Sityodtong made the announcement for the retirement fight through Facebook:
Askren (17-0-0-1NC) last defended the welterweight title at One Championships: Shanghai this past September, defeating Zebaztian Kadestam by second round TKO. Askren is also a former Bellator MMA Welterweight Champion, but he gave up the belt when he opted to not re-sign with the company in 2013. Askren has only one blemish on his professional MMA record, which was a no contest against Luis Santos at One Championships 26 in April 2015.
Aoki (39-7-0-1NC) is competing for the first time since losing the One Championships Lightweight Title to Eduard Folayang at One Championships: Defending Honor. Aoki is coming off of the longest break of his professional MMA career, because he is returning to action after a year-plus layoff. Aoki has also competed once in Bellator MMA, suffering a defeat to former UFC/Bellator MMA Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez at Bellator 66.
One Championhips: Singapore takes place on Friday, November 24 from the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore with Ben Askren and Shinya Aoki headlining. Fightful will provide quick results of the events once its over, the event streams live on Flo Combat.
