BJ Penn Talks Fighters Seeking Big Money Fights

MMA

Former UFC Lightweight Champion and former UFC Welterweight Champion BJ Penn will be returning to action this Sunday Night at UFC Fight Night 103.

Penn, who hasn’t competed since a third loss to former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale, has a problem with fighters who are primarily seeking those big money fights.

“I’ll tell you this, I’m not the guy to go out there and say ‘oh give me this money fight, give me that money fight’,” Penn said to Fox Sports. “I look at all these guys doing that and I’m like why don’t you go knock out a 100 guys and become the money fight yourself? ‘Oh I want to fight this money fight, this money fight’ — why don’t you make yourself the money fight? How’s about that one? Let’s just start there.”

Penn is a firm believer that you have to build yourself up as a fighter over a long period of time and the big money fights will happen, something he echoed at Fox Sports.

“That’s the only way to do it,” said Penn.

UFC Fight Night 103 takes place on Sunday, January 13 from the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona with Yair Rodriguez and BJ Penn headlining.
