Top Rank CEO Bob Arum is a fan of WBC super flyweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, but is not so sure that he'll have a long reign as the world champion.
Arum briefly spoke with Fight Hub and called Sor Rungvisai a very good and talented boxer, but has some concerns over his durability as champion. Arum said fighters around that weight have intense, high-action bouts and it could shorten their careers.
“He’s very, very good. Very talented, but when they’re at that weight and they fight like that, they have a very small span because you can’t take that kind of punishment, especially on that side on a regular basis and last long. But right now, he’s very exciting and he’s a tremendous fighter,” Arum said.
Despite Arum's comments, Sor Rungvisai has been one of the sport's more active boxers that currently holds a world title. Since the start of 2015, Sor Rungvisai has fought 14 times, all of those fights resulting in Sor Rungvisai picking up a win. Sor Rungvisai is on an 18-fight win streak since losing to Carlos Cuadras in a WBC world title fight. Sor Rungvisai won the WBC title last year by beating Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez and retained the title last September on the first HBO Superfly card by knocking out Gonzalez. Sor Rungvisai defeated Juan Francisco Estrada by majority decision (114-114, 117-111, 115-113) last month on the second Superfly card and pick up the vacant Ring Magazine super flyweight title.
