Bout Moved From UFC Fight Night Gdansk To UFC Fight Night Sydney Card

MMA

Fans who tuned into UFC Fight Pass for the UFC Fight Night Gdansk card were told a heavyweight division bout between Anthony Hamilton and Adam Wieczorek was moved to the UFC Fight Night Sydney card.

While the UFC never gave an official reason as to why the move was made on the broadcast, the reason may lay with the ceremonial weigh-ins the day before.

UFC superstars who love soccer and their favourite clubs

At those ceremonial weigh-ins, both Hamilton and Wieczorek were told to not appear because a few dozen members of the Lechia Gdansk ultras were in attendance.

For those who don’t know, the ultras are an extreme and sometime violent group of fans who support the local soccer club. Wieczorek happens to be a fans of the rival team, the Ruch Chorzow, who hails from the region known as South Poland.

The Lechia Gdansk ultras started chanting and security quickly put up barricades, before additional police and security were brought to those ceremonial weigh-ins.

It is unknown at this time if the ultras would have tried anything to harm Wieczorek at the ceremonial weigh-ins or the fight itself, but the UFC decided that safety was of the utmost importance and the fight was moved.

UFC Fight Night Sydney takes place on Saturday, November 18 from the Qudus Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia with Fabricio Werdum and Marcin Tybura headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox Sports 1.
