Cecilia Braekhus Gets Opponent For Final HBO Boxing Main Event

The other half of what is expected to be the final main event in HBO's long history of broadcasting fight has been decided.

Cecilia Braekhus, the undisputed women's welterweight champion, will fight Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes on December 8 in her next title defense. That fight will headline the final HBO Boxing card at the StubHub Center in California. Braekhus' undisputed WBA, WBO, WBC, IBF and IBO 147-pound titles.

This will be Magdziak Lopes' third-ever world title fight, but first time she would fight for a title at welterweight. Magdziak Lopes, a Polish fighter based in Massachusetts, sports a 18-4-3 record since making her pro debut in 2009 and previously challenged for the WBA and WBC junior middleweight world titles.

It is just the third time in the history of the network that it airs a live women's boxing fight. The first-such instance took place on May 5 when Braekhus successfully defended her titles against Kali Reis. December 8 card will feature former world champion Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez faces off against Pedro Guevara.

The fight will be the final one taking place on HBO after the network announced several weeks back that it will no longer do regular boxing broadcasts starting in 2019. The only other HBO card scheduled for the remainder of the year is the November 24 card in Atlantic City. That card will be headlined by Dmitry Bivol vs. Jean Pascal for the WBA light heavyweight title. The co-main event of that card will be a WBA Intercontinental super bantamweight title fight between Murodjon Akhmadaliev vs. Isaac Zarate.
