Chael Sonnen is preparing to fight longtime rival Wanderlei Silva in the main event of the upcoming Bellator 180 pay-per-view.
Another longtime rivalry in the MMA world was that of the one between Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz. If a third fight where to take place between the two, there would definitely be one person watching the fight in Sonnen.
“I’m in for it,” Sonnen said to MMA Junkie Radio. “I like fun fights. They don’t all have to be meaningful; they don’t all have to be contendership or championship fights. So does it make sense? I don’t know if I could argue that completely, but would I tune in? Yeah.”
In their first two fights, both of which happened in the UFC, it was Liddell who walked away victorious.
While Sonnen would definitely watch a third battle between the two, the fighter doesn’t think the bout will actually come to fruition.
“I do think Chuck is likely to compete again just because I take him at his word and I know he wants to, and I think Tito’s going to have to someday,” Sonnen said. “But I don’t think we’ll see a trilogy.”
Bellator 180 takes place on Saturday, June 24 from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York with Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
