New UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira receives hero reception in hometown

After defeating Michael Chandler via a second-round TKO at this past weekend's UFC 262 event to become the new UFC lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira returned to his hometown of Guaruja, Sao Paulo, and received a hero's welcome. Brazillian social media agency Guaru.TV posted a video of Oliveira's hometown with the UFC lightweight title where he received a coronation fit for a king.

Graffiti artist Willis Calvacante also immortalized Oliveira with a gorgeous 1,070-square foot mural of the UFC lightweight champion. He told MMAFighting's Guilherme Cruz about the decision to paint and create the mural of Oliveira.

“I’ve always wanted to paint something about Charles and didn’t even think about the fight that was coming up,” Wilis Cavalcante said. “He’s awesome. I found that gigantic wall and said, ‘this is it.’ And it turned out that it was right around his title fight.”

Dana White comments on Tony Ferguson's fighting future following UFC 262

UFC President Dana White addressed Tony Ferguson's performance after being defeated via a unanimous decision by Beneil Dariush at this past weekend's UFC 262 event. The loss was Ferguson's third in a row and White wonders if time has finally caught up to the former UFC interim lightweight champion.

“He had a tough three rounds,” White said (h/t MMAFighting). “He couldn’t stop the takedown, he couldn’t get up from underneath Dariush, and yeah, he had a tough night. I don’t know, we’ll see what happens. It could be that, it could be just time gets us all. So it’s one of those things, I don’t know which one, or both. But yeah, unfortunately, it’s definitely hit Tony.”

YouTuber Jake Paul reveals he's a free agent, wants to help improve fighter pay

YouTube star turned boxer Jake Paul recently appeared on former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen's You're Welcome podcast and revealed that he currently is a free agent when asked about his current status with Triller. Paul also talked about how he hopes to help fighters realize their worth and improve fighter pay.

“I’m a free agent,” Paul said (h/t MMAFighting). “Look, I think that’s the way it should be with all fighters. It just sucks to see these young kids, these young boxers, these young UFC champions get tied up into these contracts where they’re owned by the promoter. They’re owned by Dana White and they’re not getting fair pay, they’re not getting the fights they want. It’s a big problem. How is Arianny Celeste—she’s a ring girl, right?—how is she making more money than some of the fighters in the octagon who are risking their lives? It doesn’t make sense to me and it’s just a big problem. I’m hoping to help change that and just help fighters realize they are the content. They are the ones that the fans are showing up for. They are the ones that are driving these pay-per-views. They’re the ones risking their lives and they should be rewarded for that.”

Elon Musk responds to Beneil Dariush UFC 262 callout

SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has responded to UFC lightweight contender Beneil Dariush's callout following his victory over Tony Ferguson at UFC 262. Dariush made the callout in his post-fight interview with UFC commentator Joe Rogan claiming his wife's been waiting on a Tesla delivery.

“Elon, where’s my wife’s car, bro? I’ve been waiting six months,” Dariush said (h/t MMAFighting). “I’m having a baby, I need a good car, I’ve got to protect my daughter. Let’s go, Elon. Get me my car!”

Well, it seems Dariush will get his wish after all, as Musk himself tweeted in response to Dariush's post-fight press conference saying the Tesla was on its way and apologized for the delay.
