Conor McGregor Shoots Down Talk Of Him Being ‘Off’ During His Walk Out, ‘I Will Return’

Conor McGregor returned to the octagon for the first time in five years on Saturday, taking on Max Holloway at UFC 329.

The return didn’t last long as McGregor blew out his knee on the first strike, attempting a jumping switch kick that missed. McGregor planted on his right leg, which gave way. He tried to stand and move to continue to fight, but couldn’t properly balance himself and either fell or buckled with every attempted strike or movement.

After 69 seconds, and some remorse from Holloway, the referee stepped in.

It was speculated that McGregor came into the fight injured, which he shot down, or that something else was going on based on his demeanor during his walkout, which he also shot down.

“I was so sharp and so ready for this fight I cannot believe what has happened. The talk of me being off while walking in to the fight is nonsense. I was calm, ready, and confident. I am in shock what has taken place. The devil is literally staring at me right in front of my face here. I am not engaging. I will be at church tomorrow.

I will overcome this.
I will not be deterred.
I will return.”

This was McGregor’s first fight in five years after breaking his tibia in the cage against Dustin Poirier.
