CSAC Suspends Aspen Ladd’s Bantamweight License

Aspen Ladd and Germaine De Randamie competed in the main event of UFC Fight Night Sacramento, with De Randamie scoring a sub-one minute knockout victory.

The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) has decided to suspend Ladd’s bantamweight license according to MMA Junkie after the fighter gained 18% of her weight back between weigh-ins and fight day.

This ruling could affect Ladd’s upcoming bout against Yana Kunitskaya at UFC Fight Night Washington DC, which is currently set for bantamweight.

However, CSAC Executive Director Andy Foster says Ladd can be cleared the compete at bantamweight again with extensive medical documentation.

“CSAC will remove the note if (Ladd) provides extensive medical documentation from a licensed physician certifying the weight class is appropriate and verified by CSAC physicians,” Foster said.

Ladd’s manager, Dave Hirschbein, was shocked that the CSAC came to the ruling that they arrived at.

“We’re all working on this together, so for him to actually say (Ladd is suspended) to you, I’m shocked,” Hirschbein said. “I’m surprised he would use those words, because I have an exact agreement that’s not what’s going to happen once we have this paperwork done.”

There has been no comment from Ladd or the UFC on the fighter’s suspension and/or status for UFC Fight Night Washington DC.
