The former interim champion was expecting a bout with UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman next, but Covington’s manager in Dan Lambert says the promotion got what they wanted in the end with the Covington/Lawler main event.
“They just simply needed a main event,” Lambert told MMA Junkie. “Colby and Lawler were the two guys that were most available. So they pushed it hard and got what they wanted.”
