Paulo Costa came up short against UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya in the main event of UFC 253 and his performance drew the ire of UFC President Dana White.
White was seated at cageside for the title encounter and later said Costa’a performance was “weird.”
“It was weird, I mean if you look at every other fight that Costa has had, he comes out and goes after people like they owe him money and I think he just landed one jab in the fight,” White said at the UFC 253 post-fight press conference (via Raj Sarkar of Essentially Sports). “He (Costa) didn’t try to clinch in the fence, didn’t try to put pressure., kept going back to the center of the octagon. Very weird”
A defeated Costa would post the following on Instagram after the loss:
Costa wasn’t just defeated by Adesanya in the main event of UFC 253 but Costa also suffered the first loss of his professional MMA career.
